Research at ICTP is carried out by seven scientific sections: [4]. The scientific community at ICTP includes staff research scientists, postdoctoral fellows and long- and short-term visitors engaged in independent or collaborative research.

Throughout the year, the sections organize conferences, workshops, seminars and colloquiums in their respective fields. ICTP also has visitor programmes specifically for scientific visitors from developing countries, including programmes under federation and associateship schemes.

ICTP offers educational training through its pre-PhD programmes and degree programmes conducted in collaboration with other institutes. In collaboration with other institutes, ICTP offers masters and doctoral degrees in physics and mathematics. In addition, ICTP collaborates with local laboratories, including Elettra Synchrotron Light Laboratory, [9] to provide fellowships and laboratory opportunities. ICTP has instituted awards to honour and encourage high-level research in the fields of physics and mathematics.

One of ICTP's goals is to set up regional centres of excellence around the globe. The idea is to bring ICTP's unique blend of high-quality physics and mathematics education and high-level science meetings closer to scientists everywhere. Its activities are modelled on those of the ICTP and include schools and workshops, as well as a visiting scientists programme.

For Einstein-Maxwell theory, the underlying reason behind this instability is the existence of multi-centered configuration in the moduli space of black hole solutions at fixed total charge. To build up intuition, I will present a model, studied in the statistical mechanics literature, that shares many features with SYK, including exact solvability at large-N and an emergent conformal symmetry that gets weakly broken in the UV.

The novel feature of this model is the appearance of a spin glass phase at O 1 temperatures, which I will try to relate to the fragmentation story. Address: strada Costiera, 11 I - Trieste Italy. It is focused towards dissemination of knowledge in frontiers of physics for the universities and teaching organizations. The site endeavors to break the isolation of Pakistan's top scientists by offering them the opportunity to work with foreign scientists who are invited to lecture and also to participate in the sites research activities on a regular basis. Establishing world-class physics research institutes was proposed by a number of scientists.

The roots of NCP institutes go back to when Nobel laureate professor Abdus Salamafter receiving his doctorate in physics, came back to Pakistan in Joining his alma mater, Government College University as Professor of Mathematics inSalam made an effort to establish the physics institute but was unable to do so. The same year, he became chairman of the Mathematics Department of the Punjab University where he tried to revolutionise the department by introducing the course of Quantum Mechanics necessary for undergraduate students, but it was soon reverted by the vice-chancellor.

He soon faced the choice between intellectual death or migration to the stimulating environment of a western institutions. This choice, however, left a deep impression on him and was behind his determination to create an institution to which physicists from developing countries would come as a right to interact with their peers from industrially advanced countries without permanently leaving their own countries.

InProf. Abdus Salam visualised the need of an institution where experts from the industrialised nations and learners from the developing countries could get together for a couple of weeks once a year to exchange views on various subjects of current interest in Physics and allied sciences.

Riazuddina pupil student of Abdus Salam. The same year, Ishfaq Ahmad established the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the University of Engineering and Technology of Lahore where Abdus Salam was invited to give first lectures on particle physics and quantum mechanics.

Since then, it has been regularly held without break and it is a great credit to Prof. Riazuddin for his dedication and commitment as such type of international scientific gathering in a developing country like Pakistan presents a major step for the promotion of science. A major aim and goal, Prof. To transform his vision to reality, his student Prof. Riazuddin played a major role. The National Centre for Physics came into reality when Prof.

Riazuddin arranged a one-day symposium on Frontiers of Fundamental Physics on 27 January at the Institute of Physics of Quaid-e-Azam University, only seven months before the recent tests, Chagai-I. All the leading scientists of the country and some visitors from CERN attended this symposium and they provided their support. Tariq Saddiqui and other dignitaries, witnessed the inauguration.

InDr. Riazuddin, who was made lifetime Director General Emeritus. The vision of Prof. Hamid Saleem. The RPC has an excellent time resolution i. The RPC is a gaseous detector made using two parallel-plates of bakelite with high resistivity.

For the complete system, number of readout channels are around 50, RNCP has an experimental high energy physics laboratory which is equipped with the high speed and advanced data acquisition system based on VME standards.

This laboratory is used for prototyping and testing of RPCs at present. For more than 50 years, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics ICTP has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world. Founded in by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers.

ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world. ICTP alumni serve as professors at major universities, chairpersons of academic departments, directors of research centres and ministers of science and technology in nations throughout the developing world. Many of them have been recognized in their own countries and internationally for their contributions to science and science policy.

Spenta R. Wadia was the founding director of the institute and served tillafter which he was succeeded by Rajesh Gopakumar as the Director.

ICTS is a multi and interdisciplinary venture that brings together various subjects such as mathematics, physics, biology, computer science and earth sciences.

It is envisaged as a place where researchers from around the world meet and interact for critical periods of time in a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere.

ICTS hopes to attract the best researchers from around the world to organize and participate in programs that stimulate progress in science.

It is also involved in high level education and training and in reaching out to the larger society by serving as a node for scientific information and values. The activities at ICTS fall under the following broad categories. ICTS aims to have a high quality permanent faculty of modest size together with a large floating population of visitors, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

The faculty members work in various areas of theoretical sciences. ICTS has a vigorous Ph. The students are stationed in Bangalore and their course requirements for a degree from TIFR are partly fulfilled by arrangements with various institutions in Bangalore. A strong post-doctoral program has also been initiated.

ICTS provides a platform along with resources for researchers working on diverse subjects to congregate during high-quality programs of varying durations.

Cross-disciplinary immersions are encouraged at ICTS. Long duration programs have a large educational component. They aim to provide an introduction to current problems in an emerging research area.

There is a fair balance of international and national participation. The lecturers are carefully chosen and are often distinguished scientists. The participants are mainly graduate students, postdocs, and young faculty. Short programs are focused discussion meetings on a recent exciting development in a given field. These meetings usually include a research-oriented participation and are frequently organized in conjunction with one of the following three lecture series: Chandrasekhar Physical SciencesRamanujan Mathematics and Turing Biology, Computer Science and Engineering.

ICTS also organizes programs in collaboration with other international research institutes. Anyone holding a faculty position at any research and educational institution can apply for organizing a program at the ICTS. For this reason, at present, it is preferable to have at least one of the organizers from an existing institution in India. A typical proposal for organizing a program is expected to have two or more organizers. As part of this program, ICTS, in collaboration with other scientific institutes in Bangalore, organized a hands-on math exhibition in Bangalore that saw over 32, visitors in a span of 10 days.

The campus has been designed to provide office space and on-site accommodation for more than academic members, including 75 visitors. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
